ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I wish to acknowledge and thank those so many loving acquaintances and friends who have inspired these expressions of the loving way. Long ago and far away I became entranced by the immense loving spirit of the Mexican people. My good fortune took me to many wonderful, richly spiritual settings in Mexico, and put me in blessed contact with scores of people who simply let the loving way effuse its way into the world that surrounded them. To say that I was touched, both humanly and spiritually, by their ways is a great understatement. The real truth of the matter is that they opened me to a space within myself that I had long forgotten, that space within that each of us is born with, but soon forget out of being domesticated into the world of the material.
This offering of poetics, as I call them, is a testimony to the depth and breadth of their influence on my life. In many instances, words are accompanied by the gifts of collaborative photographs that inspired them. In all my travels, I have come to know the extraordinarily open spirit of the Mexican people to be among the strongest in its impact on my life. This is so much so that a number of years ago a friend and colleague, after seeing me in the company of some of these very people I describe, said to me, “Jim, I have known you for years and have come to know you as a very open person. But, after seeing you in the company of these seeming indigents, I must tell you that I have never seen a personality change as profoundly as yours has. You must have been a Mexican in many past lives in order to connect with their souls as you have.” She couldn’t haven’t been more correct in her assessment. Our souls are intertwined for the good of all–which, of course–is the same for all of us, if we just let it be.
And so I now do entwine my soul with all, thanks to God’s loving way in all. Gratefully, at this time in my life, this way of being extends beyond those most close to me to one and all.
Now, all these many years later, I extend my profound gratitude and undying love to each and all for enriching my life beyond compare. May your influence now reach beyond my own for the good of all who are touched by these loving images.

POETICS MADE ABUNDANT
Each of these poetic phrases comes from contemplation of a photograph that etched its meaning on the lining of my heart, created somewhere, some time, all in a moment’s embrace of life portrayed.
ONE AMONG THE REST
among all earth’s possessions
what makes one
stand out among the rest?
color, size, shape, taste, smell
or other characteristics
more human in nature?
sensitivity, courage, conviction
commitment, caring, generosity
no matter which the reason
God’s Light seems to shine upon
and from within
singling one out
from all the rest.
special
very special
as one stands out
among the rest.
DYING IS THE ULTIMATE ADVENTURE: RESURRECTION
each day
as I give a piece of myself to God
letting go
letting that unneeded piece
die within me
I give root to a new adventure.
dear Lord
I gladly give You
my guilt
my fear
anything
that darkens my soul.
whatever
it pleases You to do
I will let it die within.
what adventure then poses itself
within me?
what will best give to life
in it’s place?
what a sense of adventure!
I give to You, O Lord
each piece of me
that needs to die.
I give each
as a gift to You
that you may replace it
with Your very own:
a new, healthy
living growth of love from Your heart.
and
together
we will have Our resurrection.
WATTA BUNCH!
when friends are at play
most anything goes
especially when an outsider captures their attention
encouraging the freedom from within
to display whatever they feel
to do as they wish
without fear of the judgmental eye.
each rests as an individual
from the relative safety of his soul.
each displays
the poetry of his life.
I wonder what influences such differences?
A JOYOUS HEART, A BEAM OF LIGHT
how generously
some let their heart love
opening it to God’s care
permitting God’s joy to flow in all directions
bathing all it touches
with beams of Light.
isn’t it wondrous and beautiful
how those God uses
are lit by that same joy of love:
God’s beam of Light?
TENDER MOSAIC
sometimes we try to create
special scenes
ways of conveying a design on life.
funny!
the finest mosaics of life
seem simply to avail themselves
of the opportunity
to bring tenderness and completeness
to the spirit of life’s undertakings.
INDELIBLE GRACE
the flowing heart pulsing to strands of music
oft’ times giving rise
to special creations:
the warmest of smiles
the grandest of gestures
and playing of spirits in sweet harmony.
all at once>
life comes together
as God’s grace
seemingly to create an indelible view:
love etching an enlightened image
on the lining of my heart.
CONTEMPLATIVE
as life unfolds each day
it brings with it extensive opportunities
to ponder its gifts.
we struggle with meanings
puzzled by the vacuum of the unknown
always striving with the human desire
to know.
when we contemplate different meanings
God opens our mind, heart and soul
and rests our thoughts
in God’s great mind.
inspiration is God’s gift.
WARY LAD
as life wears upon us all
it brings to bear
experience
circumstances
conditions and appearances.
all, we are taught
have a bearing on our view of life.
but if we look
to the higher side of things
and beyond appearances
conditions
circumstances and experiences
our wariness leaves
to be replaced
by trust in God’s way for us.
AGELESS SOUL
as we look upon our life
we tend to view it as we’re taught:
in a limited context
missing the spiritual vision
which is clouded by the myopic materialism
of the here and now
with so many external things
to which we erroneously give power.
when we instead
look beyond the immediate
and the surface meanings of life
we find our soul
to be timelessly enriched
by God’s perpetual care.
PURSED LIPS AND GENTLE EYES
the condition of the soul
becomes easy to read
when we study its portrayal
through the many human signs:
pursed lips and gentle eyes
a downcast head and shy grin
a boisterous laugh and expressive hands.
in these ways
and more
we can read the soul
providing
we, too
have opened our very own.
NOURISHMENT AT 301
we are nourished
in so many ways
so many common to view.
like rest and sunshine and food
bathing, a kindred thought;
like being caressed and appreciated and trusted;
like a smile, a touch, a phone call, a timely note.
all of these are such lovely signs
that set us all aglow.
in the warmth of this nourishment
we so oft’ times
just bathe in it
forgetting what really permeates it all:
God’s lovingkindness
showing through all God loves.
POSED, IF YOU PLEASE
sometimes we are caught
in an unanticipated opportunity
to be what we wish
(instead of what we are)
and so we pretend
in that unexpected way
to be what we are not
just yet.
YOUTHFUL SCRIBE
humans are so delightfully imaginative
always wondering
and toying with ideas and things
always writing and otherwise expressing
what comes to mind.
such behavior surely
is to be encouraged
for the growth it engenders
is unlimited
except by the stultifying abyss
of fear
of that same unknown.
budding genius
is best released
by opening the heart and mind
to catch God’s glory
God’s wisdom and knowledge
and letting it flow
as Our very own.
