I acknowledge and embrace the freedom to create and its power to transform. I express my profound gratitude to the God that creates through me and all other beings, that we may all “come home” to the Grand Creator within and live and express from that space–all for the glory of creatively loving.

INTRODUCTION
Have you grown tired of being known for what you do? Or by what you have been led to think you are, rather than what you really are? Do you have a feeling of personal and spiritual emptiness, no matter how you seem to structure your life? Do you ever wonder if there is more purpose to life than this? It might be helpful to know that you are not alone in these feelings. It might help even more to know that there are a number of simple, but nonetheless profound, means of changing this unsatisfactory way of living.
Of this we can be certain: we can regain our sense of being and inner strength if we concentrate our energy on reconnecting with the God of all that is. We thus eliminate the separation we feel, and the pain that separation generates. When we begin to rearrange our life by taking this first important step, we may from time to time get discouraged along the way because the newly reconstructed us doesn’t look at all like the old us. This can be somewhat disconcerting at first. In the long run, however, we can rest assured that God will rebuild this house called us in magnificent ways. Peace and joy will infill, and the future will be brighter than ever before, for this is the loving way.
The Holy Spirit is a rebuilder, a transformer of the first order. No matter what the obstacles are, they are transcended. The capstone of your new temple that includes God first and foremost will be your life’s purpose fulfilled moment by each glorious moment. Even in our despair we must keep going. We must reconfigure the foundation so the newly formed temple will be strong and vibrant. We just need to keep moving, praising God for reach step. This commitment is the foundation for moving forward. Yes, our real, genuinely loving, lives can be restored. More enlightened will be the expressions of our temple as we surrender the rubble heap of our current beliefs and let God rebuild the Spirit within us. It is the walk of faith that a life of loving naturally instills.
This brief book is designed to provide one way for you to find the Truth that is unique to you. And to build the skills and attitudes necessary to carry you forth on your journey without the burden of a past filled with anger, guilt, fear, self-doubt or shame. In reality, that is, in the reality that is your spiritual nature, you have within you the power and means for finding the real you–and expressing what you are through all you do. The result is the transformation from behaving as a human doing, doing, doing, always doing, to honoring yourself as a spiritual being, an authentically loving, spiritual entity in human form.
Many of us are like cement: mixed up or permanently set. There other ways to think and live, free from the confusion and doubt which fear creates. Free from the implanted and self-inflicted expectations that cripple. What I am about to suggest is not a quick fix. Nor is it complete. It represents just one step–but a very important step–towards becoming whole again. If taken seriously, it can be a very big step towards giving you the confidence, courage, discipline and commitment to becoming what you were created to express. When stripped from the nonessential details and self-created drama of life, even this slight change in perspective can help restore one’s self-respect, inner integrity and sacred dignity.
This journey begins with a most important assertion: one cannot truly love another unless that love is first rendered as an honest, sensitive, compassionate love of self. Such an expression is not at all narcissistic, selfish or self-indulgent. It is the law of the Spirit of loving: love thyself truly so you can then love others passionately in the very same fashion, with same depth of commitment and compassion–simply by lavishing the Truth of loving on one and all. This what is meant by loving your God, the Essence of Loving, with all your heart and mind and strength. It is important to remind ourselves time and time again that this marvelous journey, the celebration of life itself, begins with enlightened love of self.
Just as it is important to look at the entire journey you’re planning before starting out on the first leg, it will give you a better perspective on what you are and where you’re headed if you scan the entire book before beginning the exercises that could lead you there. Then you can keep the overall purpose in mind as you deal with the details. Although it is not critical to the success of this immediate journey, it sometimes can be more enjoyable if the journey is taken with a trusted companion with whom you can share the experiences you bring to the work at hand. Be careful if you do, however, to never write anything with the intention of sharing it verbatim, lest you prevent yourself from telling the real Truth. But sharing the essence of something quite private after you’ve finished with it can help both you and your partner. Either way, you can reach your destination with great satisfaction in your accomplishment, which becomes your new way of life. The way and the end become One in Being.
FINDING YOUR TRUTH
Before anyone can begin to love him or her self, they must first come to a basic understanding of what and who they are. Truly, that is a lifelong process. Yet if one can develop a means of looking within that works for them, the process of self-reflection can be most natural and enjoyable, and one that regularly informs in healthy ways.
Let’s begin with uncovering what we have been led to think we are with this short, but penetrating, exercise. Gather together some paper and your favorite writing instrument. I find it’s best to use these tools rather than a word-processor because the “feel” of the expressing one’s self through a pen or pencil onto paper helps free up the inner self in a deeper way. It tends to ground you in your task and frees you from the inner critic or censor. If, however, you are one of those who has mastered letting go while using your word processor to serve your needs, then by all means do so.
Allow only ten minutes total time, and NO MORE, to complete what is asked in this first exercise. I want you to honor your intuition here. If you take much longer the tendency will be to conjure up something from your computer-like mind, which only stores information from past experience. Instead, you need to free yourself to express the inner Truth of your heart in the freshness of the present moment. Resist the temptation to over-think the question or to give a “textbook” or “classic” answer. Being true to yourself in this moment is all the exercise requires. Another way is to answer the same as if someone said to you: “You know what’s right in your heart to say.” Should you wish to keep this book as a record of your initial venture into a significant change in your lifestyle, adequate space has been provided for you to respond. Here are the three questions:
1. What am I?
2. What is my purpose in life?
3. How am I to manifest that purpose?
Ready? Begin!
Remember, you have only 10 minutes, total, to complete all three questions.
Now that you’ve finished, put this exercise out of your mind for a moment and relax while I take you for a brief journey through the perils of our materialized world. The intent here is to help you see how you, like so many others of us, may have gone astray from your inner self, most likely without even noticing it. Because it feels safer to do so, we often change in such small measure that we don’t seem to notice we’ve changed at all.
